Q2. Use of triple pointers?

In between asked about my job and undergrad college details.

Q3.  A numerical on microprocessor. It was related to optimization of number of registers to perform a micro operation.
Q4. The Maths professor asked me to find the Moment generating function for the given random variable ( I had no idea about it that time) so I asked for a different question.

International Institute of Information Technology - Hyderabad Interview Experience

For those who missed GATE , here is an opportunity for you to get equivalent to IIT.
IIIT Hyderabad

I was on the borderline , rank 273 .
After getting result on 27 February , till 10 June , there was no offer from any IIT.
I appeared for IIIT Hyderabad Interview.

Format of IIIT Hyderabad

Written
Usually conducted mid April .
Level equivalent to GATE . Aptitude test as well as Computer Science test.
Some questions were from GATE previous year in 2015.
But separate cutoffs for both.

Interview
Interview was during mid June 2015.
There were 3 people  with lots and lots and lots of knowledge ( You can't fool these guys).
Whatever plans I had , that I will tell about this project or that , all was in vain.
My advice is , just tell what you know .

They asked me question mainly on reverse engineering.
It revolved on how will you solve the following problems?

What should we do in case a extremely popular platform(Java/Flash) is going to get abondoned?
Will we be able to update every machine with some other software . Lots of Flash/Java code is there who will support them? And what if even the source code is lost and you have the executable only? ( I think this was mainly because my job profile was somewhere related to this) . How will you transform it so that it runs on some other platform?
Some questions were on how reverse engineering tools work.
I tried to answer as much as i could .

Then I was asked to use the blackboard and solve few questions based upon AVL trees. I was asked to draw an AVL tree while they were giving the inputs. They asked me to explain every step and made counter questions ( why you selected this and not this node ) .
You should be clear in your concepts.
Further I was asked about difference between different Trees. AVL , balanced etc. and when to use and when not to use them.

 Tricky things
As my rank was quite good , they doubted that I might leave IIIT Hyderabad if I get an IIT.

Stay
You can get accomodation in hostel ( some of my friends got).
Else you can easily get an OYO Room in Gachibowli, Hyd.

IIT Bombay RA Interview

Indian Institute of Technology Bombay - Research Assistanship

One of the best programmes for people with rank > 300 .

After getting GATE results , it becomes very difficult situation for people with rank between 300 and 1000.
IIT B is to rescue.
I have seen people with rank > 700 getting selected and 200 being rejected in the written round itself.

IIT B has a 3 year M.Tech CSE Research Assistanship programme.
You enjoy 3 years of M.Tech (Believe me , M.Tech is enjoyment ).
The courses which you had to do in 2 years , you do in 3 years in a relaxed manner.

My experience ( 2015 )

Written
Test similar to GATE.
25 marks paper  - MCQ based.
High cutoff .

After the written and before the results were announced there was a PPT , where all project in-charge( the faculty) presented their projects. LISTEN TO THIS CAREFULLY.

Programming round
1 question . 1 hour. Program in C/C++ ( Documentation was also provided). Easy question.
It was basically adding two polynomials and printing in ascending order of degree.
( I made a mess of it in  order to optimise my solution ).
Its kind of online coding competition. where input comes from stream.

Preference of RA
Our preference of RA projects was asked.
There are various projects available. You can select a few or all . But getting a chance in the interview is sort of luck .
There are chances that your neighbour gets chance in 3 interviews ( of different projects ) but you only one.

Many faculty members during our time only took interview of those people who set their project priority on top .( THIS WAS NOT INFORMED TO US).

Interview

I got one interview chance for Application Software Center(ASC).
I was asked about my various projects of my job/B.Tech . Most of my projects were Android or Python based.
They asked various questions related to security such as CSRF, XSS, man in the middle , Session hijacking, Tokenss etc which I was able to answer.
At the end they asked whether I knew servlets.  My answer was I know server side scripting (in PHP , python etc.) and have done Java for Android ,I can learn this too.
But interview ended abruptly after this.
